This is the theme of this year's World Breastfeeding Week, and it's one that rings very true to me.
I come from a breastfeeding family. My mum breastfed myself & my 3 siblings, so it's all that I know. 7 years ago, as soon as I found out that I was pregnant with Sebastian, I knew I would breastfeed. We had a few hurdles, but we got there, and our breastfeeding journey lasted 7 months.
I then started to volunteer with Friends of Breastfeeding because I didn't want any other birthing parent to feel alone or lost or not heard. I wanted any birthing parent who chooses to feed their baby with their body to have access to support that they need & want & deserve. So, I became a Breastfeeding Buddy. You can register for your free Buddy here.
In April 2021 I returned to Slingababy & took the Feeding & Carrying Advocacy workshop.
It is up all of us to support the feeding parent. To sit with them, to listen to them. To bring them water & a snack as they feed. To tell them that they are doing an amazing job. To support them when they are ready to wean. To make sure that it is seen as the norm & treated as such.
Happy World Breastfeeding Week 2021!
